When I was a kid, I spent 10–15 minutes every day waiting for my school bus at my bus stop. On some days, the waiting was longer because the bus had to cross a railway crossing to get into my village. Near my bus stop, there was an ice cream seller who used to sell ice cream in those orange-colored ice cream cones on a cart. He was from either Bihar or UP. He used to rent a small room near my bus stop for himself, and every summer he came to our village to sell ice cream.
A couple of months ago this year on a Sunday I called 6 of my friends, and surprisingly all of them picked up the phone. I talked to them on average for 1 hour each. For context, some of them I knew from kindergarten and some became friends in college. I either knew their childhood, their teenage years, or their early twenties. Now the majority of them are earning pretty decent salaries and living a comfortable life. In childhood, they were very ambitious, like thinking of doing something novel, something no other is doing. But now I noticed, since we are all almost of the same age (24-25), each of them I called, he/she said that they are doing the job and not a single friend is feeling fulfilled from their job or from their life. All of them are living a dull (नीरस) life. And the only thing they think will help them is a better salary and an ideal partner(maybe it is true, idk). Everyone is feeling handicapped maybe by capitalism or I don’t know why they are feeling handicapped, why they are feeling helpless. Everyone is saying “This is how life is, what we can do” or “It is what it is”.
Abstraction is hiding away the complexity of the system and only being concerned about its input/output. One of the best examples I know of abstraction is programming. Every programmer uses it every day for building amazing things.
I was looking at the program of finding the longest common prefix among an array of Strings. I was able to look at the testing input and figure out the answer easily(for small input). But to instruct a computer to do the same thing that my brain just did, I have to write code. Then a thought came into my brain that what if this is the exact or something similar program that is present inside our brain?
It is not a guide on ‘how to find what you love to do. It will just give you another perspective to look at this question and hopefully find a solution.
Companies like Apple and Google are pushing boundaries with their chips. Apple’s A16 bionic can perform heavy machine learning computation with a dedicated chip. Google’s Tensorchip is capable of real-time language translation for captions, text-to-speech without an internet connection, image processing, and other machine learning-based capabilities, like live translation and captions.
Just like the human body has senses to navigate in the world through getting and processing information, your phone also has sensors for its proper functioning. We will be exploring the most commonly used sensors in the smartphone.
While you are communicating with your friend you are also changing her neurons. What you are speaking, and the gestures that you are making through your body language are making ‘physical’ changes in her brain. It is weird to first think about it, but it is really happening in her brain and also in your brain simultaneously(through her responses and reactions). If you remove some of these abstraction layers, the conversation is just sending some data and some instructions and in return receiving some data and some instructions.
How cool it would be if we can know and alter the source code that is responsible for taking every decision of our life. But what is the source code in this context?
The thought that ‘I can only confirm my existence is frightening, self-centered, and at the same time liberating’. Think about it, you can only know that you are alive, you can only know about your brain, and you can only listen to your thoughts directly.
I am not saying evolution is good or bad. I am typing this article because of evolution. I am just exploring how it is responsible for things that we sometimes don’t think about. As we know that evolution made us this amazing dominating species capable of doing amazing things but on the other side I think it also made us miserable.
I am using flutter because of its fast development cycles and ability to built fast and smooth UI. I recommned reading flutter documentation.
